4 December 2024Lucy K. Monahan, 71, of Onawa, Iowa passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 23, 2024 at her residence.
A memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelist Dale Wolf, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Lucy’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy and David McNeill American Legion Post #129, Onawa, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Lucy Kay was born March 25, 1953 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Dallas and Mary “Rosalie” (Hines) Laughlin. She grew up on a farm in Malvern, Iowa and later moved to Whiting. Lucy graduated from Whiting High School with the class of 1972. Lucy served in the United States Navy February 12, 1976 and was honorably discharged October 13, 1978.
Lucy Laughlin and John Monahan were united into marriage May 28, 1977 in Las Vegas, Nevada. To this union three children were born, Michael, Melissa, and Joseph. The couple later divorced.
Lucy worked for Tyson in Sioux City for over thirty-five years until her retirement.
She cherished her grandchildren deeply, finding joy in every minute spent with them. Lucy enjoyed gardening and was very strong in her faith. Lucy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Onawa Congregation, Onawa, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Michael Monahan, Melissa Ebert and former son-in-law, Jim Ebert, and Joseph (Kim) Monahan; five grandchildren, Lauren (Caleb) Stanley, Devin Monahan, Benjamin Monahan, Addison Ebert, and Savanna Monahan; one great-grandson, Gabriel Stanley; brothers and sisters, Sherry Smith, Randel “Joe” Laughlin, David Laughlin, Billy (Tammy) Laughlin, James “Dan” Laughlin, and Lea (Michael) Wright; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Mary “Rosalie” (Hines) Laughlin; sister, Carol Sage; and brother-in-law, Melvin Smith.
