Sandra “Sandy” Jean McBride, 77, of St. Anthony, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Her visitation will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Dakins Community Center in Zearing from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Immediately following Sandy’s visitation, her funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor David Burling officiating. A private family burial will be held at Lincoln Township Cemetery at a later date.

Sandy was born on March 6, 1947, in Eldora, Iowa to Elmer and Mae (Borton) Kuhlman. She grew up in St. Anthony where she attended St. Anthony School until her sophomore year. Sandy graduated from West Marshall High School with the class of 1965. Following school, Sandy went on and earned her certified nursing assistant certificate. She married the love of her life, Phillip McBride, on April 19, 1969, and the couple moved to Zearing. They both began working for Dick Sparrow's 40 horse hitch until they began their own tiling business and later owned St. Anthony Market in St. Anthony. Sandy began working at the Marshall County Home until it closed and then began working at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown. She retired from the Iowa Veteran’s Home and later went back working part-time. Since 2009 Sandy was the Clerk of Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing. A job she took great pride in, and the cemetery always looked immaculate. She was truly a person who loved to help others. Sandy had a way of always turning lemons into lemonade with a smile on her face and making others smile too.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Sandy enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and her pets. She also enjoyed working and fishing.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her sister Mary Jo Nizzi of Clemons, IA; nieces Theresa (Paul) Schnepf and Susan Dobbs; nephew Michael Nizzi; great-nephews Colton Schnepf, Coby Schnepf, and Ryan Dobbs; great-nieces Maelen Schnepf and Sarah Dobbs; sister-in-law Jan McBride; and many close friends.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Phil, and brother Denny Kuhlman.

Memorial contributions in Sandy’s name may be made to the ARL of your choice.

Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care has been entrusted with care of Sandy and her family.
