M. Phyllis Porter, 72, of , Mission, Texas, died of cancer Saturday at her home. The Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at West Des Moines United Methodist Church with a reception following. A private burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.

Mrs. Porter, a homemaker, was born in Winterset and lived in Des Moines before moving to Texas in 1973. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mission and Elidad Temple, Daughters of the Nile.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; two sons, Paul Carey of Clive and Pat Carey of Spicewood, Texas; two stepsons, Doug Porter of West Des Moines and Greg Porter of Omaha; a stepdaughter, Sherri Carlson of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, West Des Moines United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church in Mission or Sandy Jo Funk Hospice in McAllen, Texas.
