Page 1Susan L. Wilson was born in Indiana August 28, 1830, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roswell Stephens in Wapello, December 24, aged 87 years, 4 months and 6 days. She came to Iowa with her parents at the age of 16 years. She walked the entire way from her old home to her new home. At the age of 19 years she was married to Charles Roberts, who lived but three years. To this union two children were born one of whom passed away about 42 years ago. She was married to E. R. Joy August 17, 1853. He died Feb. 20th, 1898. Eight children blessed this union, two dying in infancy.
Mrs. Joy united with the Methodist Episcopal church about 60 years ago, and has lived a consistent and faithful member of this branch of the church militant until God called her to the Church Triumphant. She was a praying christian and loved to be in the prayer meeting of the church. The last number of years she was deprived of church attendance owing to poor health and age. She was a charter member of the Aid society of the First M. E. church and labored for many years therein.
She is survived by seven children as follows: Mrs. Anna Gerrard, of LeClaire, Iowa; Mrs. Elizabeth Hilliday of Wausau, Wis., Jas. L. Joy, Mrs. Alice Stephens, Wapello, Iowa, Mrs. Susan Milbairn, Holstein, Iowa, Elmund Joy, Los Angeles, Cal., and Frank E. Joy Wapello, Ia., also two brothers Tal Wilson, of Wapello and Wm Wilson, of Kansas. The funeral services were held from the First Methodist church at 2 p. m. yesterday, conducted by Rev. W. S. Moore, assisted by Rev. J. R. Hammond. Interment in the Wapello cemetery.
