Page 1Mr. Pete Armstrong, a young man employed at the H. B. Jones home west of this city, passed away at 5 o'clock this morning of injuries received yesterday morning at ten o'clock, when he fell backwards off a load of hay. The accident occurred while transferring a load of hay to the barn loft. The young man, standing on the rear of the wagon, was pulling upon the rope which operates the hay fork, when it gave way and he fell backwards to the ground striking upon the back of his head. He lay helpless, paralyzed from his shoulders down, until his death occurred this morning.
Mr. Armstrong was 27 years of age last January, and is the son of Mrs. N. Armstrong of Columbus Junction. He had been employed at the Jones home since last March. He is survived by his mother, a sister, Mrs. Amor Kelly of Columbus Junction. Mrs. W. S. Grimes of this city, is an aunt, a sister of his mother. The remains were taken to the home of his sister in Columbus Junction today, and funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the U. P. Church at Columbus City. Interment in the family lot in the Winfield cemetery.
