Our community was greatly shocked this morning when it became known that Mr. John Turgeon, a veteran of the Civil war, had passed away. Mr. Turgeon had come up town this morning apparently in the best of health and was in Mr. Frank Gore's carpenter shop talking, when suddenly, with out a moment's warning, he fell dead. He had been suffering with heart disease for several years which finally resulted in his death.

John Turgeon was born in Columbus, Ohio, October 14, 1846 and was at the time of his death 66 years of age. He came to Iowa in early childhood and settled in Kossuth, Des Moines county, Iowa, residing there until the opening of the war when he enlisted in Company D, 8th Iowa Cavalry, serving his country three years, when he was honorably discharged. He came to Louisa county at the close of the war, settling at Bard, until five years ago when the family moved to Wapello.

In 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Abi Pike in Wapello, Iowa. To them were born four children, two of whom died in infancy. Harry Turgeon, of Ottumwa, Iowa and Miss Myrtle, at home, are left with the wife to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. Deceased is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Joe Price, of this city. Funeral services will be held at the M. E. church tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 1:20, under the direction of the G. A. R. Post of which he was a member, with sermon by Rev. E. C. Brooks. Interment in the Long Creek cemetery.
