John W. Jamison, an old and respected resident of this county, passed away at his home in Newport Sunday morning after a lingering illness with Bright's disease. Although in feeble health for many months his death was a shock to relatives and friends. Mr. Jamison was the son of Hon. George and Hulda (Herrick) Jamison, who were pioneers of Louisa county, and his father was one of the largest land owners and stock dealers in the state. John was born on the home farm four miles south of Wapello on August 29, 1841. He attended school at Kossuth and Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and on his return home chose farming as his occupation which he continued to follow until 1885 when he began conducting a store at Newport, Ia, which he continued until about two years ago when he moved to Burlington. After residing there about one year he returned to his former home in Newport to spend the remainder of his days.

When a young man of twenty-one he was converted and united with the Methodist church. Mr. Jamison was married in this county to Miss Rachel Vaughn September 28th, 1862, who survives him. To them were born five children all of whom live in this county. They are Tuttle G. Jamison, of Oakville; Isaac, of Morning Sun; Mrs. Dale Kremer, Mrs. Truman Dotson and Mrs. Wilson Robb, all of whom reside on farms south of Wapello. He is also survived by his brothers, J. H., M. L. and O. B. Jamison, who reside in Wapello. The funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. George Blagg, of Morning Sun. The remains were laid to rest in the Bethel cemetery.
