Last Thursday evening at 4 o'clock occurred the death of George Turner, street commissioner of Columbus Junction after an illness of a few hours from a stroke of paralysis. The first of October, Mr. Turner had a slight stroke and had been failing in health ever since, but had been able to fill his place as street commissioner and was the weigher of shells at the button factory. Thursday he had finished his lunch at the button factory and was sitting in the chair as usual joking with the boys, when he became unconscious and leaned over in his chair. The boys hurried to assist him and soon carried him to his home on a stretcher, but her never regained consciousness and passed away at 4 o'clock.

Mr. Turner was a highly respected citizen of the town. Mr. Turner was born in Washington county, August 27, 1850. When a child his parents moved to Oquawka, Ill. at which place he was married January 1, 1870, to Miss Anna Littlefield. To this union were born four children, two of whom survive. They are John W. Turner, of this city and Mrs. Margaret Stratton of Bagley. The first Mrs. Turner preceded her husband in death many years ago. Mr. Turner removed to Columbus Junction in 1877. On August 25, 1882, he was married to Miss Mary E. Ross, of this city. To them was born one daughter, Mrs. James Wilson, of this place. Mr. Turner is survived by his wife, three children and 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral services were held Saturday after noon at 2:30 o'clock at the home, conducted by Rev. R. S. Drake, pastor of the Christian church.
