OLIN - George Alvin Smith, 79, lifelong resident of Jones county, died at Anamosa Community hospital Tuesday, March 14, 1972.
Funeral services were held at Hayden's Funeral home, Olin, Friday, March 17 at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Lawrence Odegard conducted the service; Mrs. Ron Rogers was organist and Loren Hartwig, soloist. Interment was in Green Center cemetery.
Pallbearers included Everett Smith, Darrell Woolison, Kenny Dirks, Daryl Bodkin, David Wells and Gene Lloyd.
He was born Sept. 6, 1892 near Anamosa, the son of John R. and Minnie Mary Anne Rob Smith. He married Vera Wilkens Nov. 6, 1917. Mr. Smith had farmed since 1923 in the Olin area.
Survivors include his wife, Vera; nine children, Frank, Daniel, Freda, George Jr., Richard, Ariel, Mary Anne, Stanley and Joe; 27 grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, John Smith, Wyoming, and James Smith, Virginia City, Minn.; three sisters, Katy Miller and Rose Coleman, Anamosa, and Mary Tallman, rural Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Vera, and a brother, Ben.
