Raymond William Welsh died Saturday February 8, 2025, following a brief illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 21, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Father Ed Fitzpatrick will be the celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. The rosary will be recited at 3:30 PM. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church or the Regina Foundation.
Raymond was born November 2,1937 in Iowa City, the son of William and Marie (Rogers) Welsh. He graduated from St. Patrick Catholic School and served in the US Army at an early age.
Raymond William Welsh married Marge (Steinbrech) Welsh on September 1,1962 at St. Mary Church in Solon, IA.
Raymond went on to work for Coca Cola for over 38 years. He was an avid golfer and member at Hi Point Golf Course for over 50 years. Ray enjoyed travelling with his wife, Marge. They were able to travel to 12 European Countries, Alaska and Puerto Rico. An avid Hawkeye Fan he spread the Hawkeye fever not only in Iowa City but in their winter home in The Villages, FL for more than 20 years. He enjoyed coffee with all their friends at Panera in Iowa City and The Villages.
Raymond was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Church.
Raymond was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed time spent with his Family.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marge and their son, Tim (Shelly) Welsh; grandsons, Matthew and Ryan Welsh; and sister in laws, Irene Steinbrech and Nargi Steinbrech.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lorraine Werner; brothers-in-law, James Werner, Robert Steinbrech, Edward Steinbrech, Francis Steinbrech and sister-in-law, Mary Stahle and several nieces and nephews.
