Jere K. Covington, age 80 of Ainsworth, formerly of the Oxford area died Friday, January 31, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Memorial services will be held at 11am Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Gay & Ciha Funeral Home – Oxford Chapel in Oxford where there will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the services and a time of fellowship following the services. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory. Jere Kent Covington was born April 22, 1944, in Paonia, Colorado, the son of James “Harry” and Alice (Moore) Covington. Jere was a district sales manager in the seed corn business for over 50 years. As a young man Jere was an Iowa State Golden Gloves Boxing Champion. Thes skills allowed him years later to coach his youngest grandson, Garrett, in the sport. Jere was an avid fisherman, hunter, motorcycle enthusiast as well as an airplane pilot. He was blessed with many years of sobriety, something that he never took for granted and was a mentor and sponsor to so many others on the same road that he shared. But nothing was more important than his family and friends.

His family includes his two sons, James “Jim” Covington (Patty), and Jeffrey Covington; 3 grandchildren, Colton Covington (MacKenzie), Samantha Muller (Nick), and Garrett Covington; 2 great-grandchildren, Parker Covington and Casey Muller; brother-in-law, Darrell Ealy and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Gladys Rogers and Leslee Ealy; brother, Jimmie Covington and nephew, Russell.
