M-P students' short film to be shown at film festival
Every filmmaker dreams of having their film shown on the big silver screen. This weekend Mid-Prairie High School juniors Caleb Davis and Josh Gingerich will achieve that. Their short film, "Sleight of Hand," will be shown at the 2015 Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival.
The festival will be held this weekend Friday April 17 and Saturday April 18 at the Collins Road Theaters in Marion. "Sleight of Hand" will be showing in the theater both days. For further information or for tickets visit crifm.org/ticketinfo.html
Many films were submitted for this years contest, and the panel of judges selected 58 films for official showing. In the student short film category, Caleb and Josh's film "Sleight of Hand" was selected for official status. The synopsis of the movie is as follows: Five teenagers participate in their annual poker game, using their "allowance" from their wealthy parents as the winners prize. The game unfolds and it becomes clear that other tactics to win the prize are being used.
Mid-Prairie actors featured in the film are Ben Stone, Levi Runciman, Nolan Faselt, Alex Vilovchik, and Eric Knebel. The film was directed and produced by Caleb Davis and Josh Gingerich. Script was written by Caleb Davis. Location of the film was at the home of John and Nancy Faselt.
The festival was created in 2001 to provide a venue for Iowa filmmakers to screen their work for their peers and general audiences. The primary goals are to encourage independent Iowa filmmakers to continue improving their craft, to provide a place to showcase Iowa connected films, to present a unique cultural event for the community, and to offer networking opportunities for the purpose of Iowa filmmaking.
