Dear Louise:
Since I retired from answering genealogy letters, I still read all the queries on the webpage for Jefferson County. I could have posted a reply but felt I would be intruding.
I am going to tell you that school was Burr Oak Independent School District in Section 8 of Walnut Township. There were approx l00 school districts in Jefferson County, each with its own one room school In l957 the Fairfield Community School Dist was organized and there were 52 rural school operating, and the l00 school districts became one district. Five years later in May 1962 the last rural school Walnut No. 8 known as Burr Oak closed its doors. Rural school had come to an end. In a booklet publ. in l98l under the pix of Burr Oak it states:
"The last rural school to close in Jefferson County. A picture taken on the last day of school supplied by the Fairfield Ledger. Later destroyed by a tornado" unquote.Hope this helps you, as well as someone else.
No doubt someone in that neighborhood has the old school records in their house and never shared them when the Latter Day Saints microfilmed here in October l974. Sorry my magic wand is not working to answer all your questions.Verda Baird, " former county snoop"
