I have a picture of the Independent School built in 1869/1870 in Walnut Township, Jefferson County, Iowa. It was built at a cost of $1400.00. The school was a brick school and a cement front porch. The picture appears to have two teachers, one standing on the right side with several girls of various ages and on the left side another teacher with several boys, also of various ages.
Now in the Directory of Schools, I do not see this school listed, yet I find it on the map of Walnut Township of 1871. My great Grandfather was James Robinson whose farm is shown across the top of the picture coming in from the left side about two inches. It reads Jas. Robinson 80 acres. If you scroll down the right side the James Robinson farm, about two inches, you will come to the corner where it shows the Independent School. Is this school still standing, or do you have any records for this school. I am sure that my grandmother went to that school probably with her siblings, and that is why my Father has the picture. Any information would be helpful.
Thanks. Louise Andersen in California
