I'm working on a project for the 4th Iowa Cavalry. Robert Young served with Co M. He was born abt 1824 in Ireland. 1st wife Margaret. Children Joseph & John. Joseph was a school teacher, buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
Robert was living in Buchanan Twp (P.O. Salina) in the 1860 and 1870 Census w/Margaret and sons. He was residing in Salina when he enlisted.
1880 Census living alone. He md Hattie Cole in 1881 and had 2 daughters. Hattie is buried at Evergreen as is one daughter, Annetta (Young) Campbell. In the 1885 Census he is living in Buchanan Twp with wife Hattie and daughters.
In the 1895 Census Fairfield Twp Hattie is a widow living w/her daughters. Hattie died in 1916. Daughters are living in Fairfield through the 1930 census.
There is a possibility Robert md Mrs. Rachel Archibald in 1872.
There is a Robert Young (no headstone) buried at Upper Richwood Cemetery (Salina), husband of Margaret Young (his 1st wife). Dates for Robert match all the marriages and children and census and Civil War record dates. I found all of this information on the IaGenWeb site for Jefferson County. The cemetery site states the information for his burial came from "Jefferson County Iowa 77 Cemeteries - 1839 to Dec 1990" by Verda J. Baird - pub. July 1995.
If anyone can verify that this is the Robert Young who served in the Civil War with Co M 4th Iowa Cavalry, I would be forever grateful!
Thank you!
Kathy Weaver
