Thanks, Verda, for offering to track down the information on Isaac Vorhies. Unfortunately, based on the info you provided, this isn't the ancestor I'm looking for. (Born 1806 in Ohio vs. 1799 in New Jersey,...)
Here is what I have on my ancestor, Isaac Vorhis/Vorris/Vorhies:
b. between 22 Jan and 10 Aug 1799, in NJ; both parents also born in NJ
m. (1) ? before 1831, in NJ
m. (2) Julia Ann (King) Dutton, 18 Feb 1847, Athens Co., OH
d. 21 Jan 1865, probably in IAChildren from 1st marriage:
Abram, b. abt 1831 in NJ
Perhaps others...Children from 2nd marriage:
Eliza Jane, b. 1849-1850 in Athens Co., OH
(Isaac) Ephraim, b. 1 Sep 1856 in Athens Co., OHStep-children (from Julia Ann's previous marriage to William Dutton):
King W. Dutton, b. abt 1843
Enos S. Dutton, b. 25 Dec 1844 in Athens, OHThis family unit can be found in the 1850 census in Canaan Twp, Athens County, OH: Isaac Vorhis (51, NJ), Julia A. (36, VA), Abram (19, NJ), Eliza J. (1/2, OH), King W. Dutton (7, OH), Enos Dutton (5, OH).
This family unit also appears in the 1860 census in Black Hawk Twp, Jefferson County, IA: Isaac Vorris (60, NY), Juli Ann (45, MD), King (16, OH), Enos Dutton (OH), Eliza J. (11, OH), Ephraim (3, OH).
Based on his son Isaac Ephraim's family bible, Isaac senior died 21 Jan 1865 at 65 years of age. His widow, Julia Ann, remarried almost immediately to a John Wells in Aug 1865, in Lucas Co., IA, so it seems extremely likely that Isaac died (and was buried?) in Iowa. But sometime prior to 1870, they moved to Missouri; Julia Ann and Ephraim show up in the household of Abram Voorhees in the 1870 census for Jackson Twp, Daviess Co., MO. Then, in the late 1870s they moved to Reno Co., KS, where Julia Ann died on 24 Jul 1884.
