James Groff Death and Burial info~~

Trying to find death info on JAMES GROFF, b. abt 1805 NJ, died aft 1870. In 1860 he was living in Jefferson Co., IA; in 1870 in Washington Co., IA. Don't know where or when he died. Did not know if you had easy access to cemetery books with an index to look that up or Register of Deeds with computerized lookups. I am also looking for death info on his wife, ELIZABETH HOLDEN GROFF , b. abt 1810 NJ, died aft 1870.
If there are no indexed records, I know that the task would be too difficult. I would appreciate if there is anything you can do or any direction you can guide me in.
