As corresponding secy for the Jefferson County
Genie Society, I can tell you that from l846 to 1904there are no individuals listed even under the
letter "I" If he took out first papers inNew York, am sure that is the very same piece of paper he carried all the way to Oregon. I thought it was just a two part process. Our first papers go back only to l870 here in this county. In 1907 there was a new form "Declaration of Intent" which really had gobs of information. The old First
Papers read:"""I (so and so) a native of (where)
solumnly swear that it is bona fide my intention to become a citizen of the US and to
renounce all allegiance and fidelity to every Foreign Power, Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatsoever and particularly ellegiance to ( ) of whom I am a subject, so help me God."""
Signed by: (alien) date: -- County judge --First Papers tell just NOTHING even if you
can find them.Sorry I can be of no help.
