BATAVIA — Jack Davis of 3383 85th St., Batavia, died at 2:30 a.m. December 16, 2007 at his home.He was born August 4, 1930 in Ottumwa, Iowa to William H. and Anna B. Stufflebeam Davis. He married Deb Johnson May 20, 1989.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1949, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He operated numerous service stations including Jack’s Standard, Davis Brothers 66, Atalissa Home Oil. He owned and operated the Agency Café from 1982 until the present. He was a member of Whispering Hope Baptist Church in Quitman, Texas. His favorite saying was a quote from Will Rogers, “I never met a man I didn’t like.”
Surviving is his wife, Deb; a daughter, Deb Stogdill of Hawkins, Texas; two sons, Dr. Brad (Julie) Davis of New Orleans and Dru (Susie) Davis of Ottumwa; two grandsons, Matt and Adam Davis both of Cedarville, Ohio; a brother, Darrell (Pauline) Davis of Hedrick and a sister, Shirley Ann Hart of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Billy Davis; two infant brothers and an infant sister.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Slayton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion.Visitation will begin after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.A memorial has been established to Hospice of Central Iowa.
