I guess I will write one more time trying to convince you that Orpha Ripley must have married first to Nichols, then Lee, then Freeman, then Evans. Freeman was the father of Ada "Addie" who married here in l896 to the Pickett.
So maybe it was Nichols who died in the Civil War?
Where did she marry him? Michigan? Where did she marry Robert P. Lee? Where did he die or did she divorce him? 3 boys: Charles b. Ill l870
Willard b (maybe l873).then Thomas born l876 Van Buren Co.It was l879 that she married the Freeman here in Jefferson County. Then Mr. Evans in l884.
The information you have on Orpha is from her obituary and since the WPA committee was unable to find her grave they used her obituary as their source to add her to the WPA listing.
Have you read any l870 Illinois census or l880, 1885 or l895 and l900 here in Iowa? Have you sent for Orpha's death certificate stating burial in Old Fairfield Cemetery. The Evergreen cemetery sexton could tell you for sure if she is buried in his chronological listing of burials as they occurred in l925.
I have answered letters 28 years and have tried unraveling this for someone else before some years ago.
Good luck with your delving into old records. The above is just more food for thought !! Verda
