Richard Eugene 'Rick' AVERY
February 18, 1947 - July 14, 2023

Rick was born in Fairfield, IA, to Homer and Maxine AVERY. He married Joyce PAULLUS, and they had two daughters, Cynthia and Christine. Rick and Joyce divorced in 1996 but remained good friends.

Rick worked for Maytag for 30 years, retiring in 1999. He was the Mayor of Kellogg, IA, from 2000 to 2007, also working for the Jasper County Sheriff's office from 2003 to his second retirement in 2019. From 2021 to his death he was again Mayor of Kellogg. While at Maytag, he was also a member of Union Local 997, eventually working his way up to Union President, standing up for the rights of the union workers. He left the world a better place than he found it.

Later in life he found love again in Kelley HENNING, and she was the bright spot in his days.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Maxine; his grandparents, Earl and Edith FORNEY and Bert and Sadie AVERY; and his infant brother, Gary.

Surviving are his daughters, Cyndi (Jeff WELDON) and Chris (Kevin) AREND; partner Kelley; grandkids, Madigan, Jace, and Karsyn; great-grandkids Jack, Julian, and Amelia.

Celebration of Rick's life was July 20, 2023, at the Kellogg Volunteer Fire Department.
