Norman L. Jones, age 70, of Newton, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024. A graveside service for Norm will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 1:00 PM, at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax, Iowa. The son of Norman Lee Jones and Joan Mary (Locker) Jones, Norm was born on November 7, 1953, in Grinnell, Iowa. Upon graduating from Colfax High School (1972), Norm worked at K & M Construction in Marshalltown and retired from Newton Community Schools in 2017. He was married to Sandra Knecht on October 13, 1999.
Norm persuade numerous things throughout his life. He was an accomplished musician. He took up the drums while in high school. Then taught himself how to play the guitar. Norm formed a band in which he was the lead singer, “Hard Times”. He always enjoyed fishing. Norm was an avid sports fan. He always looked forward to watching football and baseball, particularly the Iowa Hawkeyes, Washington Commanders.
Those left to honor Norm’s memory include his wife; Sandy Jones, his son; Nickolas Scott Jones, a stepdaughter; Amanda Lynne Scott, a stepson; Lucas Ray Knie, his siblings; Ron (Peg) Jones, of Newton, Chuck (Jenny) Jones, of Milo, and Mike (Jerri) Jones, of Newton, as well as 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Norman (2000) and Joan Jones (2024), as well as a brother Robert (at birth), as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
