I am not sure they were born in Jackson county. The info came from other genealogists, and I am trying to confirm and document this. (or find where they were actually born.) The assumption is they were located in the same county that Peter Dutiel (Nathan's father) was in in 1835 to at least 1850.
I am confidnet that Nathan and three of hs children were born somewhere in Iowa: Christie, Lawardi, and Leslie, but the county is somewhat of a guess. The birth info is based on the US census entries, and death certificate idications of births in Iowa, but with unknown cities and counties.
Peter Dutiel, Nathan's father, was in Bellevue, Jackson county from 1835 until about 1840. this is based on the book: "The Bellvue War Mandate: War or Mandate of Justice or Murder" by Susan Locke. There are 22 entries for Peter Duteil and Nancy. It is mentioned that Peter arrived in Bellvue, Iowa in l835; that he built a hotel/tavern in Bellvue in l835 or 1836 (first frame building in the town); that the hotel was sold in 1838 and that the war occured on l April 1840.
Also Peter and his wife Nancy DuTiel (spelling DUTILL in the census) were in Monmouth township, Jackson county Oct 3, 1850 per the 1850 US census.
