womens pocket watches

My grandmother, who lived near Preston, is shown in photograph wearing a pocket watch, but it is pinned to her left lapel. Her sisters wearing likewise watches on their lapel. I am trying to date this photo, so thought someone may know, when was this a fashion statement for wormen?
