Anna Rathjen passed away at the Ida Grove hospital on Saturday, March 24, at 1:15 p.m. after an illness of nearly four months. She was a daughter of John and Elizabeth Rathjen and was born at Marengo August 3, 1874. At the age of 16 years she moved with her parents to Ida Grove which has since been her home. She was of a quiet nature and preferred her home and was happy in assisting her parents. In their later years she tenderly cared for them. After the passing of her mother and father she made a home for her brothers Charles and Louis and her sister Caroline. Her departure is mourned by three brothers, Louis, Charles and Henry and a sister Caroline all of Ida Grove. Also a niece, Mrs. John C. Iversen of Santa Monica, Calif., and a nephew, John Rathjen of Ida Grove. Funeral services were held at Moore Bros. Funeral Home Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. T. W. Collins officiating. Margaret Ford sang “Beautiful Garden of Prayer,” and “There is no Night There.” Accompanied by Mrs. Ronald Courtright. Interment was in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Pall bearers were Walter Zimmer, Clifford Rauch, J. E. Moorehead, M. A. Piper, Earl Ferguson and Ray Yousling. Source – Ida County Pioneer Record, Ida Grove, Iowa, Thursday, March 29, 1945, p.8
