Larry L. Neubauer, age 72, of Battle Creek, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at the UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s of Sioux City, Iowa.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Rev. Randy D. Cormeny will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa, with Military Rites conducted by the Maple Valley Post No. 364 of the American Legion of Battle Creek, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2019, at the Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Battle Creek, Iowa. Larry Leslie Neubauer, the son of Leslie and Luella (Heide) Neubauer, was born October 14, 1946, in Battle Creek, Iowa. Larry was raised in the Battle Creek area and received his education from Battle Creek High School graduating with the class of 1964. In August of 1964, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country in Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he attended a community college in Waterloo, Iowa, before returning home to Battle Creek and working at Midwest Industries. On April 7, 1973, Larry was united in marriage to Darla Prussing in Charter Oak, Iowa. The couple were blessed with three children: Renae, Sheri and Scott. Larry and Darla would later part ways. In the past Larry was employed at Guys Potato Chips and Hiland Potato Chips in Denison, IA and drove truck for Red Baron Pizza in Georgia. His most recent employment was as an electronic engineer at Gomaco for over 25 years until his retirement in 2014. Larry was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He loved watching and attending all types of sporting events. He also enjoyed going to auto races and fishing. Larry could be found downtown at the Bread Box every morning enjoying a cup of coffee with friends. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Maple Valley Post No. 364 of the American Legion of Battle Creek and a member of the VFW. Larry was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He could be found sitting in the stands cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting or school events, watching them cheerlead or showing their livestock at the county fair. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him. Left to cherish his memory include his children Renae Hamann of Battle Creek, IA, Sheri Neubauer of Ida Grove, IA and Scott (Yone) Neubauer of Battle Creek, IA; six grandchildren: Brittany (fiancé Ethan Tromp), Devin, Scottie, Isaac, Christian and Sydney; uncle and aunt Melvin (Eunice) Kohles of Grand Junction, CO; many cousins, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Luella Neubauer; his maternal and paternal grandparents; cousins Roxanne Crabtree, Arlene Rank and Robert Henningsen.
