Leona Josphine Gebel, daughter of Frank and Helen Gebel, was born March 18, 1934, on their small farm just west of North Washington, Iowa. In 1944, her family moved to a farm just north of Lawler, Iowa. She attended school in the North Washington area her early elementary years, but she finished grades 5th—12th in Lawler. (She enjoyed Math and explained why she was so proficient at Euchre!)

She married Luke Kriener on June 16, 1952. They farmed for several years near Jackson Junction. She retired and moved to Cresco, where she resided until her health declined. At this point, she moved to Wellington Assisted Living /Nursing Home, Decorah, Iowa.

She enjoyed socializing with activities that included playing euchre, fishing, listening to good music & her TV games shows, especially “The Price is Right”. The highlight of any day was when one of the grandchildren would visit, and like many grandmothers out there, it just never was enough!

She loved to bake for her kids, grandkids & any other company with her specialty being chocolate chip cookies & for special occasions she would even make her soft cut out molasses cookies & apple pie.

She did some crocheting & several blankets were given to the grandchildren over the years.

She is survived by her four sons: Kenny from Jackson Junction. Denis and Betty, Fulton Illinois. Tom and Charlene, Decorah Iowa. Scott and his Fiancé Lynette Sash, New Hampton, Iowa.

There are 11 grandchildren & 17 great-grandchildren. She has one living brother: Joe Gebel, Lawler Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Luke, her parents: Frank & Helen Gebel. Brothers Robert, Francis, LeRoy, & her sisters: Jaen Hageman, Marilyn Burns, Lucille Reicks, Loretta Kleve, & Doris Balik.

Special thank you to Winn-MED Hospice & Wellington Nursing Home for all the great care given to Leona.
