Colby Thomas Fye, born on May 10, 2001 in Decorah, Iowa, passed away on December 23, 2024 at home.
From the moment he entered the world, Colby brought joy to those around him. As a happy, playful baby, he cherished his stuffed animals and loved playing with his older sister Annie, who often treated him as one of her dolls. Colby’s tender and gentle soul shone brightly throughout his life, and his natural curiosity and ability to befriend anyone left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He was so tender and gentle with animals, and loved his cats Jinx, Elsa, and Peanut. He befriended everyone else's pets, eagerly, and the occasional stray who briefly made it into the house.
Colby shared a special bond with his dad, learning to play catch together and developing a love for baseball. He played in park and recreation leagues and on a traveling team for two seasons, with his dad proudly serving as one of his coaches. A devoted fan of the Minnesota Twins, Colby especially admired Joe Mauer and looked forward to attending a game every summer with his family. While he explored many sports and hobbies over the years, baseball remained close to his heart.
Colby was also an avid gamer, forming meaningful connections with friends online through his favorite pastime. After graduating from high school, where he worked at Fareway, Colby briefly attended college before deciding it wasn’t the right path for him. He held various jobs, including cleaning cars for dealerships (he especially loved getting to drive the brand new cars), and dreamed of one day owning his own detailing business. In his last 6 months he found employment with Walmart fulfilling online orders.
His friend group loved him so, so much. He loved hanging out with them and helping his best friend with home remodeling projects, painting, crafting, listening to music, shooting hoops and finding joy in being part of their family/friend circle. They all treated him as one of their own and offered much love and support to both Colby and his parents as he began struggling in life. They helped him as he came back and reset after each battle.
Recently, he was excited to become an uncle, and the thought of it brought a big smile to his face and gave him hope and happiness about what the future held.
Colby’s warmth, curiosity and kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
