S. M. WAREHAM DROPPED DEAD

Everyone in the community was deeply shocked Thursday night of last week at the sudden and unexpected death of Sylvester Wareham who dropped dead in his auto. Death resulted from heart disease. Mr. Wareham drove up in front of Severson's restaurant at about wight o'clock, stopped his car, and a moment later fainted away. He was laid on the sidewalk and later carried into Severson's physicians working over him for about forty minutes in an unavailing effort to restore life. The coroner was notified but it was decided that an inquest was not necessary. Funeral services were held from the Catholic church in Webster City Monday, conducted by Father Norton, and under the direction of the Knights of Columbus, of which order he was a member. The services were very largely attended and floral offerings were very numerous and beautiful. The body was laid at rest in the Catholic cemetery in Webster City.

Sylvester M. Wareham was born at the Wareham farm home northwest of Jewell Feb. 1, 1881, and was 32 years, 3 months and 29 days old at the time of his death. He has lived in Jewell and vicinity nearly his entire lifetime, a few years having been spent in business at Stratford, Williams and Alden.

He has been engaged in the real estate and insurance business for several years, and has been known as a hustling, enterprising business man. For some time past his family and intimate friends have known that his heart was in a very bad condition and that his death at any minute was a possibility but that fact was not known generally to the public.

He suffered a severe attack of rheumatism several years ago whish left him with a serious leakage of the valves of the heart.

Sylvester was most affable, good humored, and one of the most friendly disposition, generous and loyal to his friends, and the sudden ending of his life at so early an age is most sincerely regretted and mourned by hosts of friends. His father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. John Wareham, both survive him, and also eleven brothers and sisters, his being the first death to occur in the family of twelve children. The other children are Conrad, of Williams, John, of Dows, Will, of Eagle Grove, Simon, of Peterson, George, of Alden, Mike, of Woolstock, and Lawrence and Valentine who are farming.
