OBITUARY

Mrs. Grace Owen Cassen [sic] was born in Hanover, Germany, Dec. 6, 1847. She attended the school of that country and as is usual was confirmed at the age of 14 in the Lutheran church. When she was 16 her parents emigrated to America and settled near Golden, Ill. In 1867, the deceased married John Atkins at Quincy, Ill. To this union three sons and one daughter were born, all of whom are still living.

Mr. Atkins died in 1878. In 1880 the deceased married Jacob Cassen of Quincy, Ill.* Their union was blessed with three daughters and one son. This son, Jacob, died at the age of 12 years at Peoria, Ill. In 2905 the family moved to Hamilton Co., Iowa where Mr. Cossen [sic] died January 16, 1912. Mrs. Casson survived him a little over a year. She apparently well up to her death. On May 4th, she was attacked by heart disease and died almost instantly. Her age was 65 years, 4 months and 18 days.

She is mourned by seven children, thirteen grandchildren, and three sisters. She remained a faithful Christian and member of the Lutheran church.

The funeral took place at the farm, May 8th, Rev. H. A. Koenig of Webster City, officiated and addressed the mourners on the words of the 137th Psalm. "He giveth his beloved sleep." Appropriate music was furnished by a quartette

A large gathering of friends at the funeral testified to the great esteem in which Mrs. Cassen had been held.
