LITTLE MAURINE ANDERSON IS DEAD
Everyone in the community was distinctly shocked when the news came just after noon Sunday that little Maurine, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Anderson, had died suddenly at the home east of Jewell. The child had not been feeling well for several days last week but Thursday appeared to have recovered from what was believed to be but a slight indisposition and went to school again. During the afternoon however she felt sick again and went home, being under the care of the physician the rest of the week for inflammation of liver and biliousness. However it was thought that the child as suffering from no serious complaint even until within less than an hour of the time of death. At a little after ten-thirty Sunday afternoon she had a severe attack of vomiting and at eleven o'clock died.
The absent members of the family were at once sent for. Dr. Chas. Anderson and wife arrived from their home at Madrid Sunday night. Merle came up from Ames early Monday morning and Miss Hattie Anderson from Manchester Monday morning. The child's death came so suddenly and unexpectedly that none of the absent members of the family were at home. The shock was extremely severe for the parents and Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were both prostrated.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted from the home by Rev. J. O. Thrush, past of the Congregational church at Webster City. Interment was made in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery in the presence of large numbers of sympathizing friends of the grief stricken family. The children of Maurine's class in the schools attended as a body and strewed flowers upon the casket of their departed classmate. Among the numerous floral offerings were a beautiful pillow from the State Bank and wreaths from the school pupils and teachers. From out of town Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Trumbar and Mrs. Sterling of Webster City, Mrs. Will Cowan and Mrs. Ben Cowan and daughter of Eagle Grove, and Miss Caroline Grimsby of Ames, were with the sorrowing members of the family.
Maurine was born November 8, 1900, and was eight years, five months and three days old when the Angel of Death took her away from the parents and brothers and sisters who loved her so well. The shock of her sudden death is an awful blow to the parents. Bright and happy and lovable, she was the adored darling of the family, and her loss is too great to be measured in words. The sympathizing friends of the family can only weakly express the sincere and heartfelt sympathy and sorrow they feel for them in their deep affliction.
