David Paul Button passed away on December 3, 2022, age 61, in Newton, Iowa.

David was born in Seoul Korea on August 8, 1961. He grew up in Conrad, Iowa and studied and graduated with a bachelors degree at McPherson College, Kansas in 1984. He held several stable jobs throughout his life but the common trade among them is he was a mechanic.

David found love and passion in many things during life. His best memories and where he felt at home was when he worked as an instructor for the Garkida technical program in Nigeria, Africa through the church of Brethren from 1985-1988. Other hobbies and passions included photography, trap shooting, hunting, and gardening.

David was a kind soul and a kid at heart. He had a contagious smile and was always there for a friend in need. He had an unmatched work ethic and loved to work with his hands; always tinkering with a fixer upper project.

He is survived by his immediate family; his son, Joe Wagner, and two daughters, Megan Button (Anthony) Carano and Rachel Button. Three grandsons, Caleb Wagner, Hawx Carano, and Dax Carano. His mother, Wanda Button, and siblings, Cosette (Lou) Scallon, Tim (Mary Jane) Button-Harrison, Karin (Jeff) Thill, and Susanne Button.

David is preceded in death by his father, Glendon Button, and granddaughter, Paityn Joyner.

David’s family will host a memorial service Saturday December 17, 2022 at First Christian Church, 611 Clark Ave Ames IA at 11:00am. The family respectfully asks in lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory be directed to “Nigerian Church of the Brethren,” c/o Northern Plains District, P.O. Box 573 Ames IA 50010.
