Hi Mary Jane,
I didn't realize that when you said Death Index you meant the Social Security data so I didn't really mean to give you data you already had. I don't discount the Social Security data. I have found them to be right on the mark more than not but that certainly doesn't mean it is error free. In the case of Agnes they are right, but just didn't have the day of 3 Jan. But then, I treat all sources that way including newspapers, ancestry.com, etc. It sounds like you have better information so that is good.
I haven't been coordinator at Dickinson that long, and I live in Las Vegas so I can't visit places there, but I haven't been able to find a good local source(s). I don't know yet if the county courthouse has this data. Some Iowa counties do some don't. As coordinator in Chickasaw I found that we can get absolutely nothing from the county government. In Dickinson I don't know yet and I'm still trying to find a good relationship between us and Dickinson Genealogical or Historical societies. I finally found a Dickinson paper which had one of my ancestors obit in it but it took a very long time and thanks to someone who lived in the area. So if you do get a good response, with a source in Dickinson, I would appreciate it if you would send to me and I'll get it published on web site. The very best to you in your Gould search.
Sincerely,
Mike
