A careful of reading of the 1900 census featuring this family would reveal that they were from Canada(english), had been in US only three months and that he was a Railroad worker. If he did die in his 40's he may have died in an accident in or out of Iowa. The great Northern Railway to Washington state was being built to Washington state amongst many others. Also he may have died at home in Canada.
