Marlene Ruth Daly

Marlene Ruth Daly, 92, of Burlington died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Born July 8, 1932, in Red Oak, she was the daughter of Alvin Louis and Fern Ramona Bailey Lindner. On Sept. 8, 1962, she married John Joseph Daly in Burlington. He died on Sept. 26, 2020.

Marlene worked for Starr Kimball in West Burlington for three years after her eight years working as a National Researcher. She enjoyed her jobs over the years, but her most important job was caring for her family, at which she excelled.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. Marlene enjoyed reading, writing letters, going on day trips and had a great love for animals.

But most of all she loved her family and being a grandmother. Even after with her struggles with dementia, she still would ask about her grandchildren weekly. Marlene will be remembered for her kind heart and gentle spirit.

Survivors include her children, John (Amy) Daly of Millington, Illinois, Joseph William Daly of Burlington, Jane Louise (Kyle) Olson of Burlington, and James (Mandy) Daly of Kewanee, Illinois; six grandchildren, Reece, Michael, Allisha, Matthew, McKenna, and Gabriel; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Luka; sister, Mary Louise Kirk of Arizona, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The funeral service for Mrs. Daly will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street with Father Dominic Nguyen officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John's Cafeteria following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.

Prugh Funeral Service is in care of the arrangements.
