Last rites for Robert Earl Joseph Steines, 54, Wheatland, will be held at 10 a.m. today (Dec. 20) at St. James church, Toronto, with the Rev. William Reynolds officiating. Pallbearers are Ronald Steines, Tom Ihrig, Garrett LaMaack, Terry Steines, Leonard Elsner and Jim Gravert. Honorary bearers are Ken Beuthien, Jerold Emmerts, Tom Grau, Mike Steines, Jeff Nelson and James Steines. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Grand Mound. Military graveside rites will be held.

Mr. Steines died at Veterans hospital, Iowa City, Dec. 16.

The son of John William and Lorena Margaret Schmidt Steines, he was born in Jackson county Aug. 25, 1935. He married Garla Emerson at Grand Mound Nov. 30, 1963. He was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He had been a resident of Wheatland since 1970.

Mr. Steines worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a machinist.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Barton, Wheatland; 2 daughters, Bobbi Bartels, Maquoketa and Billi Jo Murray, Wheatland; 8 grandchildren; his mother, Lorena Steines, Calamus; 4 sisters, Thelma Elsner, DeWitt; Doris Ihrig, Maquoketa; Janice Nelson, Jonesboro, Ga. and Alice DeVoss, Calamus; and 3 brothers, Ralph, Calamus; Loren, Alpha, Ill. and William, Dixon. He was preceded in death by his father and 3 brothers.
