Very little is known about the life of Richard Houdek in McGregor except he and family were in the pearl button business. They did live in Walkon Junction and dug clams for a time and later, when is not apparent, moved to McGregor and "had a button factory". We have no particulars on that. The only real evidence I'm able to find is the 1900 census which lists them. In addition, his father, Wentzel died there October, 1901. Does not appear they stayed there for long as my father, Paul King Houdek was born in February, 1902 over the restaurant the family ran in Muscatine.
I have written for the death cert for Wentzel but no one is able to locate the document if it even existed. His remains were taken almost immediately to Washington, Iowa for services and burial.
Thank-you
