Alan,

My husband's ancestor, John Devlin, lived in Jefferson and Guttenberg back to the same time. I contact act St. Mary's Church in Guttenberg, and Rev. Marvin J. Bries, Canonical Pastor,kindly searched the Church records and found some info for me back to 1859. Also, we were fortunate to find John Devlin in the 1875 Illustrated Historical Atlas of Iowa and also in the History of Clayton County 1882. The old newspapers are digitized and available at the Elkader Library.
