Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Church in Fostoria for Mrs. William R. Gillette, 73, resident of Dickinson county for many years, who passed away Saturday morning, November 5, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grace G. Cable near Milford. Death followed an illness of 13 weeks.
The Rev. M. M. Schaper, pastor of the Fostoria church, officiated it the last rites
Burial was made in Riverside cemetery at Spencer.
Eunice Ubrey Gillette, eldest daughter of David and Amelia (CIark) Ubrey, was born December 2, 1858, near Gambler in Knox county, O. The following year after her birth her parents moved to Wapello county near Martensberg, Iowa, where Eunice Ubrey grew to womanhood.
After attending the country School she studied one year at Agency City and the following year attended school at Johnstown, O., returning to Iowa to teach school or two years.
She was married January 25,1882, to William R. Gillette and the following spring they came to Dickinson county and purchased a farm near Milford on the prairie which has since been their home.
Of frugal Scotch and German parentage she had the characteristics of the race. She was ambitious for her children and sacrificed unstintingly that they might all have a college education. Mrs. Gillette was a lover of nature and took great pride in beautifying the farm home where she lived so many years;
As a girl, Mrs. Gillette attended the Baptist church and sang in the choir. For many years she was a worker in the Fostoria Ladies Aid Society. Fourteen years ago as the result of injuries suffered in an accident, she was crippled and never fully recovered.
She is survived by her husband and five children, Mrs. Opal G. Fuller of Milford, Roy U. Gillette of Fostoria, Mrs. Grace G. Cable of Milford, Mrs. Millie G. Peters of St. Paul, Minn., Lester S. Gillette of Fostoria and fifteen grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters of California and a host of friends In the Milford and Fostoria communities
