Charles Clifton Gardner, 81, died at Des Moines, Iowa.

Surviving are his wife, Laura of Des Moines; nieces, Mrs. Sandford Trippett, Princeton, and Mrs. Blanche Bennett, Carruthersville, Mo.. and a nephew, Roger Briner, New York City, N.Y.

Gardner was general passenger agent of the Rock Island Railway system. He received two citations for commendable work. He was in chard of troop transportation during World Wars I and II.
