Ronald Walthart, 80 of Quasqueton, IA, died on Friday, January 3, 2025, at his home in Quasqueton,
IA.Ron was born on November 5, 1944, in Vinton, IA the son of Russell W. and Della F. (LeVelle)
Walthart. He attended elementary school in Dysart, IA and in 1959 the Walthart family moved to a
farm located NE of Independence, IA. In 1963, Ron graduated from Jefferson High School in
Independence. He went on to study electronics at Iowa State University for a short time. His
cousin Fred McKinley hired him to work for Kinney Shoes in Omaha, NE. He was drafted into the
United States Army in 1965. He completed basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and went on
to receive advanced training to become a mechanic and worked on jeeps, trucks, and tanks. He
spent the majority of his service in Germany. He returned home to help his dad on the farm and
later returned to Kinney Shoes.On May 18, 1968, Ron married Susan Weber, together they had three children. They lived
throughout Iowa and Wisconsin as Ron had been promoted to Regional manager at Kinney Shoes.
He was responsible for opening many stores. In 1976 they purchased a home in Quasqueton, IA,
and Ron started working for NuMac in Walker, IA. Selling fertilizer and other chemicals to farmers in the area. In 1986 Susan and Ron divorced.Ron later worked as an insurance agent for Farm Bureau. He then purchased a building in Walker
and started a grill your own steakhouse he called Ron’s Steakhouse. He was very proud of this
accomplishment and met many out-of-town people. He then drove truck and worked seasonally for
FJ Krob in Walker.Ron liked playing cards, crossword puzzles, dancing and most of all fishing. He had enjoyed
spending his summers at his lake house in Northern Minnesota.He is survived by his children: Angie (Dan) Knipper, Winthrop, IA, Tammy (Bill) Naber, Quasqueton, IA, and Scott (Jenny Reuther) Walthart, Troy Mills IA; six grandchildren: Garrett Tennyson, Rebecca (Lucas Bates) Tennyson, Justin Voss, Kaylee (Kanen) Storr, Brock (Ashley Hanks) Naber, and Mason Walthart; three great-grandchildren: Knoxley Storr, and Hudson and Hayden Bates; brothers, Dennis (Carol) Walthart, Colesburg, IA, Douglas (Julie) Walthart, Dundee, IA, and a sister DeeAnn (Patrick) O’Loughlin, Independence, IA, a sister-in-law Linda Walthart, Independence, IA and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Della Walthart and two brothers, Terry and
Steven Walthart.Visitation will be held from 2 PM until 5 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home and Crematory in Independence, IA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, January 13th, at the funeral home followed by Military Honors. Inurnment will be held in Quasqueton Cemetery in Quasqueton, IA at a later date.
