Mr. and Mrs. Gust Asklund of this city celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last Friday, December 17 when all the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were at home for the occasion and helped them enjoy the event. In the evening friends and relatives gathered at the home and a short program was planned for the evening. Mrs. E.E. Asklund opened the festivities with an address of welcome and told the story of "The Happy Family" and then proceeded as toastmistress of the evening program which was as follows:

Vocal duet -- Mrs. Higgins and Mrs. Langan.

Clarinet solo -- Donna Langan.
Vocal solo -- Betty Lou Asklund.

Vocal solo -- Junella Lee Asklund.
Piano solo -- Miss Emma Rundberg.
The glee club carolers in Jay Gould's broadcasting bus stopped in front of the house at 8:30 during the program and sang Christmas carols.

At 10 o'clock a two course luncheon was served. The color scheme being gold and white for the occasion. The remainder of the evening was spent socially visiting and singing. Before the guests departed they presented the couple with a purse of $84.Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Asklund and daughter, Betty Lou, Mr. and Mrs. V.E. Asklund and daughter, Twila, Mr. and Mrs. H.N.Asklund and daughters Junella and Juanita, Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Higgins, Glenn Asklund, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nelson and daughter, Charlotte May, J.V. Nelson, Einer Peterson, John Peterson, Miss Emma Rundberg, Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Hagaleen, Mr. and Mrs. William Hutchinson, Mrs. Erick Hagaleen, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Erickson, Mr. and Mrs. James Langan and children, Donna and Skippy, Albert Rolf, Albert Carlson, Ida Carlson, Clyde Morgan, Mrs. Alf Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Bakely [sic] and daughter Patty Jean, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Weber and daughter, Lou Anna, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer G. Asklund, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dyvig and daughters, Rojean and Marlene, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Stooldryer and son, Larry.
Mr. and Mrs. Asklund who were married at Boone fifty years ago recall the day when they drove in one of Ogden's finest livery rigs and team of horses to Boone where they were united by the Rev. J. Fish and then returned to the bride's parents' home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hagaleen where a wedding dinner was served. Following the bridal dinner the couple moved into their new home, which is the very same place where they are living today, although in the years many additions and improvements had been made thereto.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Asklund came to America from Sweden and met here in this community some three years before their marriage. To this couple were born six children, five of whom were present for this golden wedding anniversary. One child died at birth. The four sons, Glenn of Ogden, Elmer of Missouri Valley, Victor of Ogden and Harry of Boone and the one daughter, Lillian Higgins of Boone were all home for the occasion and all the grandchildren and the two great grandchildren were also present for the evening. Larry Leon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stooldryer and Luanna May Weber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Weber of Boone are the great grandchildren of the couple.
