Death of Another Pioneer
Mrs. Catherine Trayer, mother of Quirrin, Lewis and John, residents of this city, died last evening at the residence of her son-in-law, John Miller, of lung fever, after an illness of only a few days.

The old lady came to Lansing in 1852, with her husband, who lived only about two years after their arrival, and she was consequently one of the earliest pioneers. She has seen the wilderness disappear and a populous and industrious little city grow up in its stead.

Her age was 75 years, and yet she was as active and agile as very many women a great deal younger, and her industry was remarkable.

The funeral takes place to-morrow afternoon at 3 o'clock, and will be largely attended by our citizens who have known the deceased for so many years.

~North Iowa Journal, Wednesday, April 3, 1878; pg 4

Note: She's buried in Oak Hill cemetery
