Joins WAVES
Deciding the best way to serve her country was to join the Waves, Miss Bernice Woods, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Woods of Independence, has taken her final examination at Waterloo and will leave in two weeks for New York to start her training.
Miss Woods graduated from Independence,High school with the class of 1942. Since graduation she has been employed at the Independence creamery. Bernice was engaged to the late Harold G. DeBow, Oelwein, who was killed in action in Guadalcanal while serving win the Marine Corps.
Her brother, Tech. Sgt. Paul H. Woods is in the Army Air Corps, and stationed at Columbus, Ohio.
