Inspired by Her Part in War Bond Drive, Beverlie Wilson, Contestant for Queen, Enlists in the WAVES

Inspired by her participation in the Fourth War Bond Queen contest to even greater patriotic endeavor, Miss Beverlie Wilson, 2611 LeClaire street, has enlisted in the Women's Reserve of the US Navy - the WAVES - and will leave early next month for training at Hunter college, New York, N.Y.

One of the top contestants in the queen contest, Miss Wilson will continue her activity in the competition and hopes to carry off the $1,000 bond which is being offered as first prize.

"Of course I want to win." she said today. "But whether I win or lose, I will have had the satisfaction of contributing in a small way to the success of the Fourth War Bond drive. And I know I will be able, as a WAVE, to help even more toward winning the war."

Miss Wilson plans to "strike for a rate" as a pharmacist mate or as a specialist in aviation control tower operation as soon as she completes the "boot" training at Hunter.

Her father, Capt. A.L. Wilson, is a veteran and served two years in the present war with the Third armored corps at Camp Polk, La. He was placed on inactive status recently. Her brother, Pfc. Anthony Lee Wilson, jr., is serving with the army air corps at Dodge City, Kan.

A graduate of Davenport high school, Miss Wilson was active in journalism, serving as club editor of the Blackhawk. She is a former Girl Scout, and prior to her present employment at the M.L. Parker Co., taught swimming and diving at the Davenport municipal natatorium for three years.
