Fern Magdalena Wehde Schiffer was born Mar. 7, 1921 to Gus and Anna Christophersen Wehde. She died Jan. 19, 2017 and is buried in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX.
1st Lt. Schiffer served in World War II with the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. She was awarded the Victory Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern campaign medal for service outside the U.S. She was stationed in England where she met her husband, Dr. Sydney Sommers Schiffer. Dr. Schiffer was a Major with the U.S. Army.
