Sgt. Betty Wagner Assistant Sergeant Major at Fort Dix
One of the most responsible jobs in the army is being held by a Cedar Rapids WAC at Fort Dix, N.J., according to word received from the fort.
She is Sgt. Betty L. Wagner, Coe college graduate and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Wagner, 1024 F avenue NW, who is assistant sergeant major of the post and responsible for its administrative work
Sgt. Wagner enlisted in February 1943, when the Women's army corps was the WAAC, and remained in service when the branch was incorporated into the army. In March 1943, she began basic training at Fort Des Moines.
Assignment at Camp Ruston, La, Fort Hancock, N.J., and the New York recruiting office preceded Sgt. Wagner's work at Fort Dix.
Graduated from Coe college in 1942 with a bachelor of music degree, she was organist for the Turner chapel, the First Baptist church and the First Presbyterian church before she entered service. Her mother is a charter member of the Cedar Rapids WAC Mothers club.

Staff Sgt. Betty L. Wagner, who expected to receive her honorable discharge and return to civilian life in a few weeks, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Wagner, 1024 F avenue NW, and with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Walter F. Rose, 1931 Mt Vernon avenue SE. Sgt. Wagner is convalescing in Schick hospital after 10 months in the South Pacific area.
