NEW WAAC
Miss Ruthe H. Tarbell, daughter of Mrs. Ida Tarbell, 617 Grant avenue, and secretary to the head of military intelligence department of the Fremont, Neb. ordnance plant since laet July, has joined the women's army auxiliary corps and will report to Fort Des Moines, Ia., Tuesday. Previous to 1938 she was employed by the law firm of Pike, Sias, Zimmerman & Butler, and thereafter was employed by a Los Angeles, Cal., attorney for a time. She has been at her home here for several days awaiting her WAAC calls, during which time she has been working in the alumni affairs office at Iowa States Teachers college, Cedar Falls.

The study of law is the unusual "hobby" of Auxiliary Ruthe H. Tarbell of Waterloo, Ia., now taking basic training at Fort Des Moines. She is a former confidential secretary in the army, and a legal stenographer.
After attending college and business schools in Iowa and Los Angeles, Cal., Auxiliary Tarbell took a position in Chicago,later resigning to become secretary to former District Judge B.F. Butler in Waterloo.
Eight years later, she returned to Los Angeles, where she worked for a criminal lawyer. Her last position was that of confidential secretary to Maj. George M. Hagee of the Fremont ordnance plant , Fremont, Neb.
Auxiliary Tarbell is a distant relative of Ida M. Tarbell, author and lecturer.
