IOWANS JOIN AIR-WACS
Part of a group of 33 Air-WAC enlistees, there four Iowa girls will soon begin their six week basic training at Fort Des Moines. Evelyne Streit (front) 20, of Waterloo, has a brother in the army; Kathryn E. Quinn (left) 27, of 1973 S.E. Ninth st. has two brothers in the service, as does Lorna Gutknecht (top), 20, who was born in India, where her parents, the Rev. and Mrs Theo Gutnecht of Oskaloosa, were serving as missionaries. Forth recruit, Esther E. Dahleiden, 24, of Iowa City, will wear the colors for her family.

Pvt. Donald Streit, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.R. Streit, 214 East Thompson avenue, is now stationed in Iceland with the army engineers. His wife is residing in Des Moines and his sister, Pvt. Evelyne Streit, was recently transferred from Fort Des Moines to Homestead Fla., with the Air Wacs.

Mrs. D. R. Streit, 291 Thompson street, returned home Wednesday after spending two weeks with her daughter, WAC Pvt. Evelyn Streit, who has been critically ill at the army air base hospital in Jackson, Miss. Private Streit who was ill of malaria and a bloodstream infection, is now reported out of danger. An Air-Wac, Private Streit enlisted last December and is engaged at present in recruiting women for the ATC of the WAC. A brother, Pvt. Donald Streit, is now stationed with the army engineers in Iceland.

Wac Pvt Evelyne Lucille Streit, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Streit, 214 East Thompson avenue, is now serving in the European theater of operations, it was announced Wednesday in a press release. She is a member of the air transport command.

Pfc. Evelyn Lucille Streit, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle R. Streit, 214 East Thompson avenue, is one of the WACs who are serving with the air transport command of the European division, according to an official release from headquarters.
Private Streit is assigned to the station as secretary to the director of personnel. She has been with the WAC since Dec. 12, 1943, and has been stationed in the European division, USAAF air transport command for the past two months.
Before entering service she was employed as a secretary at John Deere Tractor Co.

Waterloo Wac Is Stationed in Paris
Pfc. Evelyne L. Streit, Air Wac, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Streit, 21 East Thompson avenue, is now stationed in Paris, France, as a personnel clerk in the European division of the air transport command.
The Paris airport is the most important air transportation terminus in Europe and its work includes air evacuation of American wounded, flying of whole blood and plasma through Europe and carrying passengers, cargo and mail.
Private Streit entered the service Nov 12, 1943.

Lucille Streit Becomes Bride in Germany
Miss Evelyne Lucille Streit, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Streit, 1716 Woodland ave, became the bride of Lt. Robert Alan Geiger in a ceremony at Roundup chapel, Frankfrut-am-Mein, Germany, Feb 14.
Mrs. Geiger joined the women's army corps in December 1943 at Des Moines. She left for overseas duty in the air forces in 1944 serving in England, France, Africa, Italy, Egypt and India as secretary to the air forces air inspector. She was discharged in February 1946, to accept civilian employment in Paris, France.
Lieutenant Geiger, son of R.S. Geiger of Sioux City and Mrs. Marie A. Geiger of Fort Dodge, is assigned as funds officer, G-1 section, Headquarters command, EUCOM.
