OVERSEAS DUTY
Pfc. Jean Soop, daughter of A. M. Soop of Webster City, is now serving as an administrative assistant in the supply section of the largest air service command depot in Britain, the first WAC from Webster City reported on overseas duty. Before entering the air forces in April, 1943, *She was employed as a riveter by Douglas aircraft at Long Beach, Cal.

AT AIR STATION
Cpl. Jean Soop, daughter of A. M. Soop of this city, is serving with the women’s army corps at an air service command depot in England and her detachment was recently commended by Brig. Gen. Morris Berman for outstanding contribution to the efficiency of the depot. Corporal Soop, who joined the WACs in April, 1943 has been overseas for the past six months.

Jean Soop - Women’s Army Corps - Hamilton County’s Own “Rosie the Riveter”
Jean Soop was born Apr. 15, 1922, to Arthur M. and Lillian Bohning Soop in Webster City, Iowa. Her mother died in 1939.
In 1943 she enlisted in the Womens Army Corps at Los Angeles, California. Jean was the first WAC from Webster City reported on overseas duty. Before enlisting she was employed as a riveter by Douglas Aircraft at Long Beach, California.*
Jean served as an administrative assistant in the supply section of the largest air service command depot in Britain. Her detachment was commended by Brig. Gen. Morris Berman for outstanding contribution to the efficiency of the depot. She left the service with the rank of Corporal.
She was married to Eddie Herbst and they had 2 sons. Jean died Mar. 24, 2008 and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
